Heads up!
In case you’ve missed it, entries for two of South Africa’s leading mountain biking events have officially opened.
First up is the Glacier Cradle Traverse, which will take place between 3-5 April 2020. With trails that are often described as Gauteng’s ‘best kept secret’, riders will be given a truly unique experience of the area surrounding the Cradle of Humankind.
The exclusive routes extend into Muldersdrift and adjacent estates and conservancies, with breath-taking views and even the possibility of game encounters in store.
The spectacular mountain bike trails of the Garden Route once again will be the backdrop to the Glacier Storms River Traverse, which unfolds from 8-10 August 2020.
The daily distances vary between a manageable 40-65 kilometres. Riders have the opportunity to traverse the exquisite Tsitsikamma forest and the pristine Storms River coastline. Routes are carefully created to reveal high cliffs covered in fynbos, deep gorges bedecked with indigenous forests and mighty rivers which flow from the Outeniqua Mountains into the sea.
While both events showcase truly unique South African scenery, their popularity comes from the emphasis they place on family fun.
Children are catered for at the race village with meals and day care while their parents are out cycling. The riders themselves are also treated to arguably the best food you will encounter at a mountain bike stage race in South Africa, from the ostrich fillets and craft beers at the famous Dryland water points to the buffet breakfasts, lunch and dinners in the race village.
In a hyper-competitive and fast-paced world, the Glacier Storms River Traverse and Glacier Cradle Traverse offer a stage race where riders are encouraged to slow down and take that selfie…
