Arginine Alpha-Ketoglutarate (also known as AAKG) is a non-essential amino acid that is necessary to aid nitric oxide production in the liver. Both AAKG and nitric oxide amplify the muscle-building effects of exercise and nutritional supplements.
AAKG is used to improve peak athletic performance because it helps the liver break down by-products of exercise such as ammonia. AAKG has been shown to help you exercise longer with less pain and stiffness, whilst improving lean body mass.
AAKG increases nitric oxide production in blood vessels, increasing their diameter, which also improves blood flow. This, in turn, results in more blood reaching the muscle, providing a larger amount of carbohydrate, protein and various muscle-building hormones which may potentially help improve muscle performance and recovery.
